IMEI - International Mobile Equipment Identity
Bought a second hand mobile phone from The Quokka or from a friend of a friend, or happen to find one on
the train on the way home, well odds are a lot of the time they will be added to the IMEI Blacklist and the
phone will be unable to make outgoing calls or send any data at all. Mobile phone company add any lost of
stolen phones to this list and the phone can only be removed by the original owner of the device.

The Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) runs a world-leading anti-theft
program at no cost to consumers. It works by detecting a mobile phone’s electronic serial
number, known as the International Mobile Equipment Identity
(IMEI) number, then sharing this information with carriers to
block handsets across all networks in Australia.
